Beautiful view of the historical Crystal Palace, New York
Description
This elegant steel engraving from the U.S. edition of Meyer’s Universum depicts the Crystal Palace, New York – an architecturally ground-breaking exhibition hall, built in 1853 for the Exhibition of the Industry of All Nations, the United States’ first world expo. The building stood at the location of present-day Bryant Park. It was destroyed by fire in 1858. About 40 years later, construction of the New York Public Library started in the immediate vicinity.
